SSIEM ETAC Faculty Application Form
Dear SSIEM member,
Are you dynamic, enthusiastic, and passionate about teaching? Want to support and inspire younger colleagues?
We would like to invite applications from medical or laboratory science members of the SSIEM to join the ETAC (Educational Training and Advisory Committee) faculty.
The role will be by competitive appointment and will be for a X3 year term initially – with the possibility to serve for X2 terms.
The role includes:
· Preparation for and attendance at the annual SSIEM ETAC Academy. The academy is currently being restructured and from 2026 will run as a 3-year cycle of X3 days each year.
· Attendance at virtual preparation meetings prior to each academy and a feedback meeting after each academy (approximately X6-8 virtual meetings annually).
· Teaching at interactive workshops and round-tables at the academy – together with other laboratory and medical colleagues.
· Lecturing (usually X1 lecture) at the academy.
· Together with other members of ETAC, reviewing matters pertinent to SSIEM Council and helping to prepare the annual report to SSIEM Council.
Applicants should demonstrate:
1. A specific interest in teaching and educating doctors and laboratory scientists
2. Evidence of teaching experience (see application form) – including small group teaching and lecturing
3. A good command of spoken English
4. Excellent communication skills
5. The ability to work in a team
6. Good organisational skills.
We don’t expect you to know “everything about everything” – so please don’t be put off applying if, for example, neurotransmitters are not your thing. Time to prepare and support will be offered by other faculty members.

Short-listed applicants will be invited to prepare a short (12 minute) case presentation for the current faculty (to be presented online).
